Maryland Studioz, owned by Nadia Gardner comprises of three decent sized studios with state of the art equipment as well as a spacious lounge area, in the heart of Stratford. The studio is easy to travel to with great transport links from Stratford. It offers a professional space to rehearse, to take part in dance or fitness classes or to just simply come and watch the classes that are taking place. Maryland studioz offers studio space that is professionally managed with a peaceful atmosphere to allow for rehearsals to take place.
You may in fact be under the impression that we are just a dance studio... However, our spaces have been used by many for various other things such as filming, video shoots, photo shoots, castings, meetings, birthday parties and much more. Currently, successfully running from Monday to Friday is an After School Club.
We are not your regular dance studio; we aspire to run with a difference.
The Munch Bunch After School Club focuses on empowering children and young people through innovative activities to help them flourish to their fullest potential. The Munch Bunch aims to provide many opportunities that children and young people can choose to get involved with. This includes everything from performances, dance classes, homework support as well as lots of fun!
Our studio has been home for many dancers and groups over the past 5 years and the studios activities are successfully growing. Maryland Studioz has been featured in the filming of TV shows such as Sky one’s ‘Got to Dance’ and ITV’s ‘Don’t Tell The Bride’
Being a registered charity, our aim is to continue supporting current and upcoming talent by providing as many opportunities as we can. During the summer of 2013 as well as the summer of 2014, Maryland Studioz was funded by Newham council to provide a FREE street dance course for ages 16-24 for those who were unemployed or not in full time education. We are very passionate on focuses on NEET. Participants gained the opportunity to learn from some of the industry’s finest professionals in various street styles. The outcome of this was very rewarding as participants went on to taking on further education as they were influenced, as well as gaining commercial jobs.
“From my time spent over the 8 week course I have learnt various things that has encouraged me and helped to build my confidence both on a business level as well as a Dance level. One of the main things that has helped me the most was the encouragement, feedback and knowledge provided to me by my tutors. Bruno gave me personal feedback on how to improve and also how to push myself as a dancer that I will most certainly take away with me. This has helped build my confidence as by having someone constantly push and encourage you to do better and push yourself personally really gives you the confidence and drive to go further in your chosen career as well as providing you with valuable knowledge of your art form. Overall I feel there is a lot that I could say has made me more confident from the course however my main element would be the encouragement from the tutors as without them none of what I have learnt would have been attained.” Shelby Osborne
“From the course I have developed a better understanding of street dance. Learning the foundations and history of each style taught I believe it has given me a sense of wisdom among different styles which I grantee will help me when teaching and passing on information later on in life as well as my dance career. In terms of confidence I believe that I've grown mentally as well as physically. Physically I now have the ability to freestyle in front of other without feeling shy or uncomfortable, mentally I've learnt to push away negative thoughts and not to think about what to do and just have faith and go for it.” Joelle Matondo
“The street dance course opened my eyes to a new way of movement, a new culture and a new way of thinking choreographically. From taking this course I have been continuing to develop my skills in street by taking classes with Boy Blue entertainment, Pineapple studios and Studio 68 in London. After completing this course I have achieved following credits such as:
- Rizzle Kicks (music video) Lost generation: Assistant choreographer (assisting Litza Bixtler who has choreographed for films such as World War Z and Shaun of the Dead) & featured dancer- Rizzle Kicks (corporate event) Roaring 20s album launch at YouTube brandcast: backing dancer
- Wilkinson (music video) Too close: lead male featured dancer
- Manchester Pale Ale (Online promo) #MancDanceFlashmob: featured dancer
- Plus many more
This course is great for building confidence, self belief, performance skills, memory skills and career development.“ Jonny McNeill
Maryland Studioz are continuously working as a team to make the studio into a constant creative hub, especially for the youth of today who may not have a place which they feel they can come and express themselves. We encourage young people to be creative and develop skills associated with what they are passionate about. In this way, we aim to help develop skills in a way that is distinct from their schooling. Our studio adds to the mix of amenities and services available to the local community, offering large number of young people a safe environment removed from the often dangerous distractions otherwise prevalent in the area.
We’d like to thank all who continue to support us and our tutors past and present.
Please continue to keep an eye out on what we’re up to in 2015!
